A new rail-based transshipment terminal focusing on steel products is under construction in Kędzierzyn-Koźle (Sławięcice).

Once operational, the new DB Cargo Polska terminal it is expected to handle around 4,000 wagons annually. Completion is planned for the first quarter of 2025.

The terminal’s infrastructure will include a 7,100 m² hall fitted with two cranes rated at 35 and 47 tons. They will handle steel coils up to 2,700 mm in diameter, 2,300 mm in width, and weighing as much as 42 tons. The facility design intends to keep stored products shielded from external factors. Two dedicated tracks for loading and unloading, along with a maneuvering and storage area, are planned. The site will handle wagon-to-warehouse, warehouse-to-truck, and wagon-to-truck operations.

Situated at HUB Sławięcice on the DB Cargo Spedkol siding, the new installation will benefit from about 50 km of track access. Nearby rail scales and a truck scale will be available. The location is connected to the TEN-T network, linking Upper Silesia with train services reaching the south, north, and west of Europe. The proximity to the A4 and A1 motorways and several national roads should support efficient road-bound freight flows across the Upper Silesia region.

Construction work began in 2023. The project’s design includes measures to reduce environmental impact by using energy-saving systems and an ecological heating solution. Being situated in an industrial zone is expected to keep effects on the local community limited. DB Cargo Spedkol, a member of DB Cargo Polska Group, leads the project, with a consortium of Infra SILESIA SA, Polimex Mostostal SA, and Polimex Infrastruktura SA serving as general contractor.

Once completed, the terminal is set to function as a hub for steel product logistics. Its connections to the established train services Silesia, Mazovia, and Moravia are intended to integrate the region more closely with broader European supply chains. According to the company, the move also aims to address the limited number of access points for freight rail, providing an additional terminal in an area where such facilities remain relatively scarce.
