BREAKING NEWS: Railway collapse in Germany

A major technical fault has hit the central part of Germany today, bringing trains to a complete halt.

The national carrier, Deutsche Bahn, said they has been working hard to fix the fault, but passengers must expect widespread restrictions.

"Due to a technical fault, rail traffic in the centre of Germany is currently severely disrupted. Trains in the affected area are waiting for the disruption at stations. Our specialists are working flat out to rectify the disruption," wrote DB on their webpage at 2:45 pm.

Two hours later the disruption was rectified and rail traffic in the centre of Germany was restarted. DB website announced at 4:45 pm: "The technical disruption to train services in the centre of Germany has been resolved. The affected long-distance and local train services are running again. However, there may be disruptions until the end of service. We apologise to affected passengers. We ask travellers to check their connection online at bahn.de or in DB Navigator before starting their journey," DB published.

According to some reports, it was caused by a breakdown in radio communications. Reuters agency quoted German television: "ARD's Tagesschau.de news website reported that Deutsche Bahn's radio communications had broken down in the Frankfurt area," but DB didn't give any details Reuters said.
