Under this agreement, Centralny Port Komunikacyjny (CPK) and Spanish railway infrastructure manager, Adif, will start joint training programs and exchange expertise in various areas, including the liberalization of the railway market, high-speed railway line track installation, modernization of railway traffic control systems, and telecommunications infrastructure. The collaboration will also involve technical consultations to further develop Poland's railway network, focusing on areas like the implementation of a 25 kV AC power supply system and planning and design works.
This partnership builds on the existing relationship between Poland and Spain in railway development, which began in 2021 under an intergovernmental agreement. This prior cooperation has seen the formation of a working group addressing the implementation of high-speed trains and market liberalization in Poland, as part of the EU's fourth railway package. The two nations have shared strategies to increase network capacity, develop railway junctions, and install and maintain high-speed railway turnouts, prioritizing transport efficiency and safety.
The agreement promises to enhance CPK's knowledge in managing and maintaining high-speed lines, crucial for its ambitious project to construct approximately 2,000 km of new railway lines in Poland. This includes feasibility studies for over 1,500 km of lines, with design work already in progress for over 450 km. A key focus of this development is the Warsaw - CPK - Łódź section, slated to be operational by 2028, coinciding with the opening of the first stage of the CPK airport.
