The EUR 2.7bn project was delivered in joint venture with Spanish engineering company Ayesa.

FS Engineering, the engineering arm of Italy’s FS Group, has completed its role as general consultant for the Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor in India.

The Delhi–Meerut line forms part of the Namo Bharat RRTS programme and is designed for a maximum operating speed of 180 km/h. The corridor links Delhi with Meerut in under one hour and represents India’s first regional rapid transit system for high-speed intercity services.

On the Meerut–Modipura section, the infrastructure will also accommodate metro services operating at up to 120 km/h. According to project data, this makes it the fastest metro operation currently in India.

FS Engineering provided consultancy services covering design and commissioning phases of the project. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The new Sarai Kale Khan station in Delhi forms a key interchange on the corridor, connecting with the Delhi Metro, Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station and the ISBT bus terminal. The station is planned as a hub for future RRTS routes towards Panipat–Karnal and Alwar.

Once ongoing projects in the region are completed, the Delhi metropolitan public transport network is projected to reach 750 km in length.
