The improvements lead to advanced and greener technologies of VUZ.

Technological updates are progressing steadily at the Railway Testing Centre (ZC) of VUZ Velim, particularly the installation of the European Train Control System (ETCS) on its Small Test Circuit. Following the completion of preliminary groundwork—including excavation and cable laying for signalling equipment—the track has been fitted with new axle computer sensors. Current efforts focus on integrating ETCS system components, both trackside and within internal technology rooms. Upcoming phases involve the installation of switches, fixed and variable balises, and Lineside Electronic Units (LEU). The next step will be initial testing procedures and comprehensive functional verification using an ETCS-equipped locomotive under expert supervision.

Alongside these updates, the centre is nearing the completion of its photovoltaic power plant (PVPP) project. This system, known as "Rooftop PVPP Výzkumný Ústav Železniční, a.s. – ZCV," comprises installations across eight buildings, featuring a total capacity of 1,150 kW and an anticipated annual output of around 1.26 GWh. This renewable energy initiative aims to cut carbon emissions by approximately 1,700 tons of CO₂ per year.

In related developments, ZC VUZ Velim's electric locomotive 124 601-6 recently underwent an ETCS onboard upgrade by Hitachi Rail. This update forms part of broader efforts to expand ETCS services available at the testing facility.

Several rail vehicles have recently arrived for tests at the VUZ Velim facility. On 15 May 2025, an Alstom Regio2N electric multiple unit reached the centre. Prior to that, on 31 March, Alstom's Coradia train ETR-108, destined for operation in Italy, began dynamic high-speed testing. Earlier, on 24 March, another Alstom Coradia electric multiple unit intended for Norske tog was delivered to Velim for evaluation.
