The new system, which increases the capacity to 30 wheelsets per wagon, is currently in test operation and aims to reduce road traffic significantly.

Rail Cargo Hungaria has developed a rail transport system in cooperation with TS Hungaria and ÖBB-TS. The aim is to shift the transport of wheelsets from road to rail. This initiative, which started a year and a half ago, is in line with the Rail Cargo Group's strategic goal of reducing road traffic and increasing the competitiveness of rail in transporting large volumes of wheelsets.

The development process involved a team of experts from Rail Cargo Hungaria, TS-HU, Miskolc and ÖBB-TS, Knittelfeld. Their initial solution allowed 21 wheelsets per wagon to transport, compared with 15 per truck. This system, on an Rgs wagon, complied with all collision and railway safety standards. However, despite these advances, the cost of road transport remained slightly lower, which prompted further refinement.

TS-HU's design team responded by developing a mobile two-row wagon system that increases capacity to 30 wheelsets per wagon. A prototype of the new system is being tested. The round trip time between Miskolc and Knittelfeld for wagons equipped with the two-row trolley system is approximately ten days, returning loaded with wheelsets destined for rep

TS Hungaria is planning to build five more trolley systems, which will allow 100 wheelsets to be transported by rail each week. This innovation is expected to significantly reduce road traffic on the route by an estimated 320 lorries per year. It also supports an efficient transport solution within the rail industry.
