Chinese rail freight up 4.4% in 2022

China Railways transported 211 million tonnes of cargo more in 2022 than in 2021. As the Ministry of Transport in China reports, the total volumes of cargo transported in China in 2022 reached 5.98 billion tonnes.

The tonnes-kilometres have also risen during this period, topping at 3.59 trillion tonne-kilometres, an increase of 8.1%. Meanwhile, in the first quarter of 2023, China’s rail freight volume reached 970 million tonnes.
