This month, LTG Cargo will launch an intermodal freight train to transport containers between the Kaunas intermodal terminal and Slawkow in Poland. This terminal is located near Katowice and is an important hub of the Polish broad gauge railway network, connecting the railway lines between Lithuania and Poland and Ukraine and Poland. There are also regular train connections from Slawków to Germany, Slovenia, and Italy.
The new Kaunas-Sławków route is 740 km long with a freight capacity of up to 93 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit) per journey. The planned services between Lithuania and Poland would be operated by two pairs of trains per week. If customers wish, freight services could also be transported to the port of Klaipėda. LTG Cargo will ensure cargo in Lithuania and LTG Cargo Polska, a subsidiary of LTG Cargo, will operate the service in Poland.

This new connection will enable us to shift even more goods still carried by road freight transport between Lithuania and Poland to rail. Thanks to intermodal rail freight service it will be possible to efficiently distribute even individual containers of our customers for onward transportation to other major terminals in Poland and Europe, and increasingly more carriers will therefore be able to choose more sustainable logistics solutions,” says Eglė Šimė, CEO of LTG Cargo.
LTG Cargo currently transports intermodal cargo from Lithuania to Duisburg, Germany. The company also transports agricultural and petroleum products between Lithuania and Ukraine.
