Nordic Stream Group launches new rail ferry service that promises greener freight transport between Estonia and Finland.

Nordic Stream Group OÜ has recently launched a rail ferry service designed to streamline the transport of goods across the Baltic Sea. The service connects the ports of Muuga in Estonia and Hamina/Kotka in Finland.

The ferry, named M/V "SEARAIL, has a gross tonnage of 26,000 tonnes and a deadweight of 9,500 tonnes, with 1,170 metres of rail capacity on board, complemented by additional space for trucks. Designed for speed, the vessel can reach up to 24 knots, with a service speed of 19 knots, ensuring rapid transit across the 105 nautical miles separating the two ports.

With a schedule of daily departures, the M/V "SEARAIL" facilitates continuous cargo movement, primarily supporting industries such as the automotive sector in Finland with metal imports and the forestry sector with timber exports. The service makes particular use of ammonia and the integration of solar and wind energy, setting a new standard in the decarbonisation of maritime transport.

In addition, Nordic Stream Group's subsidiary, OÜ Derivaat NH3, is developing a green ammonia project in Paldiski, Estonia. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to significantly reduce the environmental footprint of the logistics chain.

The Nordic Stream Group's new rail ferry was presented at the 51st Congress of the International Rail Freight Business Association (IBS) in Helsinki.
