Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed an MoU with Elon Musk’s The Boring Company (TBC) to introduce the Dubai Loop. The project’s first phase includes a 17-kilometre pilot of TBC’s Loop transport system.

The initial Dubai Loop pilot will have 11 stations and 17 kilometres of tunnel and will carry over 20,000 passengers per hour, with the ultimate goal of expanding to Dubai Loop, a next-generation underground transportation system throughout the Emirate of Dubai, the Boring Company said in its press release.

The Dubai Loop System, which is expected to connect major hubs across Dubai, has been designed with these assumptions in mind:

  • Reduce Travel Times: With potential speeds of up to 100 mph, the Loop could cut travel time between key points in Dubai to just minutes.
  • Increase Capacity: The ultimate expanded system aims to handle over 100,000 passengers per hour, providing a high-capacity solution to urban transport demands.
  • Promote Sustainability: Utilizing electric vehicles within a controlled environment, the system will contribute to Dubai's ambitious sustainability goals, aligning with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.

The company is following in the footsteps of The Boring Company's Loop system, which has already transported more than two million passengers across Las Vegas, USA, by 2021.
