This component is expected to become a core part of freight wagons designed to address increased demands in the European rail sector.

Innoway Trieste, a venture formed by MSC Group and Austria-based rail solutions provider Innofreight, is advancing plans to repurpose the former Wartsila plant in Bagnoli della Rosandra, Trieste, with a production focus on the newly developed “Innobogie” bogie technology.

The site, formerly used for marine engine production, is undergoing upgrades to support high-volume manufacturing, with annual output goals of 1,000 wagons and 3,000 bogies by 2027. Production of the Innobogie is scheduled to begin by July 2025, with the facility also prepared to produce 80-foot, double-bogie freight wagons. This redesign includes extensive automation.

The project also integrates a €15 million funding allocation from the regional government to establish new rail infrastructure at the site. With this, Trieste aims to become a specialized hub for freight wagon manufacturing, supporting regional employment while repositioning an industrial facility toward rail logistics.
