Traccion Rail grows almost 300% in five years

The company reported a 40% year-on-year increase in turnover in 2024 and projects a further 24% rise in 2025.

According to Traccion Rail, part of Grupo Azvi, this would represent a cumulative growth of 292% over the past five years.

The company’s operational growth is reflected in the doubling of its locomotive fleet and workforce, as well as a 102% increase in kilometres travelled, reaching a total of 783,000 kilometres in 2024. The locomotive fleet expanded from 11 to 29. Traccion Rail also added 16 new wagons and 16 flatbed platforms with a standard gauge of 1,435 mm. The company now employs over 70 people.

Adif operations start

In 2024, Traccion Rail commenced operations under contracts awarded by Adif. These services were carried out in a joint venture with REDALSA and in collaboration with Continental Rail. The scope of the contract includes the driving of Adif locomotives used in maintenance works and emergency interventions on the Spanish railway network. The company reported covering more than 462,000 kilometres under these operations.

As part of the emergency response activities, Traccion Rail conducted 15 train rescue operations for operators including Renfe, OUIGO, and IRYO.

Transport of turnouts  

Traccion Rail continued its participation in the transportation of new turnouts for the Madrid-Seville high-speed line renovation project. The company completed 21 transport operations, moving 20 turnouts with a radius of 760 metres and 24 turnouts with a radius of 10,000 metres. The total distance covered for these transports was 8,477 kilometres.

Additionally, Traccion Rail carried out five freight services on the conventional Iberian gauge network (1,668 mm) between Lugo de Llanera and Villarrubia de Santiago.

Port operations and training activities  

In 2024, Traccion Rail expanded its activities to port operations, receiving authorisation to provide commercial rail services at the Port of Huelva.

The company was also accredited as a railway training centre, providing it with the capacity to deliver training programmes for rail sector professionals.
