VR Expands Train Services for World Hockey Championships

In preparation for the upcoming World Ice Hockey Championships, VR, Finland's national railway company, has announced the addition of over 30 long-distance train services.


In Nordics, the ice-hockey is a big thing. And as fans flow from all over the world to cheer their teams, the championships, which will take place at Nokia Arena in Tampere from 12 to 28 May 2023, will benefit from the enhanced transportation options provided by VR.

The Tampere railway station is situated right next to the arena, fans will be able to travel to Turku, Vaasa, Jyväskylä, and Helsinki after the games. VR will add more than 30 long-distance train services, enabling smooth and environmentally friendly journeys for fans returning home after the matches.

VR has also considered the potential for flexibility in match schedules. In the event of extended matches, departure times for the World Championship trains can be adjusted accordingly. Any changes to the train schedules will be promptly announced at Nokia Arena, ensuring that fans are well-informed.

To cater to diverse needs, VR offers the option of reserving personal cabins or even an entire train car for racing parties. The introduction of the expanded train services by VR for the World Hockey Championships not only aims to alleviate transportation challenges but also promotes sustainable travel options for fans.
