DB Cargo and its subsidiary DB Cargo Hungária have commissioned new infrastructure at the Győr terminal, expanding maintenance and track capacity at one of the group’s key freight locations in Hungary. The investment strengthens DB Cargo’s position in Central and Eastern Europe, particularly in support of automotive and industrial transport flows.
The expansion includes 121 metres of additional track and a new 1,000-square-metre maintenance facility. The core element is a 25-metre inspection pit designed for locomotive and wagon servicing. The upgrade is intended to increase fleet availability and improve operational flexibility at the site.
Győr has been part of DB Cargo’s Hungarian operations since 1999 and plays a central role in serving the country’s automotive and industrial production centres. The terminal supports transport flows linked to Audi Hungaria and the wider Volkswagen Group, as well as other manufacturing customers in the region.
According to DB Cargo, integrating maintenance and terminal functions at a single location shortens turnaround times and improves coordination between transport, servicing and handling processes. This is particularly relevant for synchronised industrial supply chains, where reliability and rapid response are critical.
The investment is aimed at ensuring stable freight flows for automotive producers and suppliers in Hungary while supporting cross-border logistics within the European network. DB Cargo Hungária acts as a regional competence centre within the group, providing traction, maintenance and terminal services for domestic and international operations.
During the inauguration ceremony, a diesel locomotive was named “Nándor” in recognition of former managing director Nándor Németh, who played a key role in the development of the Győr site.
