Ingeteam has won a new European railway traction contract for the Polish manufacturer PESA. Specifically, Ingeteam will equip 60 locomotives with 120 high-power traction converters to be delivered in 2023 and 2024.

The new locomotives will operate in Poland and neighbouring countries and will reach a top speed of 160 km/h. The manufacturing process will be led by the company's plant in Ortuella, in the province of Bizkaia, which will take on the challenge of producing the largest volume of traction converters since the plant opened in 2019.

"We are pleased with this new order as it proves once again that our cutting-edge rail traction technology is in demand by various European companies," said Josu Elorriaga, Ingeteam's Railway & Mobility Manager. "It also shows the good partnership we have with an industry benchmark such as PESA, both for new units and for fleet service".

The traction converter is the unit that converts the electrical power from the overhead line to provide traction to the train engines and to supply other units. This supply includes the traction converters with their integrated auxiliaries, the TCMS and other ancillary units.

Ingeteam was also awarded a similar contract last year to equip more than 100 of PESA's locomotives, which will travel approximately 85,000 km per year.
