The train is the first completed vehicle in a EUR 34.6m (£30m) programme covering the EMR Connect fleet.

East Midlands Railway has presented the first refurbished Class 360 EMU (Siemens Desiro platform) for EMR Connect services between Corby and London St Pancras International.

The refurbishment is part of a wider EUR 69.1m (£60m) regional programme across the East Midlands network. The first refurbished Class 360 is due to enter passenger service next month.

The Class 360 interior has been redesigned with 2+2 seating throughout, using a mix of airline-style seats and table bays. The work also includes upgraded luggage areas, power sockets, USB charging points, passenger information systems, refreshed interiors and accessibility improvements.

EMR Connect operates twice-hourly electric services between Corby and London St Pancras International. Trains call at Kettering, Wellingborough, Bedford, Luton and Luton Airport Parkway, with the same fleet also used on Luton Airport Express services.

The route was introduced in 2021 as EMR’s first all-electric service. EMR said the operation reduced carbon emissions by 77% compared with the previous diesel services on the route.

Further refurbished Class 360 units will enter service over the coming months as the programme continues. The work is being delivered with Angel Trains and Siemens Mobility, with teams in Northampton and Bedford involved in the upgrade programme.
