At the UIP Summit in Nice, France, David Zindo (Streem Group) was elected as the new President of UIP.

David Zindo is CEO of Streem Group (formerly Ermewa Group), one of Europe's leading wagon leasing companies and a leading tank container leasing company. He was previously Chief Financial Officer of the SNCF and held various positions in the finance departments of the Geodis and Veolia Environmental Services groups, as well as with EY Audit in Paris. He will be supported by Per-Anders Benthin - CEO of Transwaggon - and Johann Feindert - CEO of GATX Rail Europe - who have been elected as Vice Presidents.

"There are a number of ideas in the pipeline for innovation in rail freight, some more fanciful than others. But one idea that has seen a lot of effort put into its development and market readiness is the Digital Automatic Coupling (DAC)," says the new president after his election, adding: "Turning the DAC into a reality in Europe would bring great added value to the customers and the system as whole simply because of its wide-ranging benefits: faster and more reliable train departure procedures, safer ground operations, more infrastructure capacity without new investments, more energy on the wagon to implement new features, more data capacity… and therefore ultimately more rail and hence less CO2!"

Heiko Fischer was President of the International Union of Wagon Keepers (UIP) for 11 years and a member of the UIP Executive Board for 20 years. He was with VTG for more than 25 years and was instrumental in the planning and implementation of VTG's transformation into a European market leader in rail freight transport.
