DB Cargo restructures its single wagonload network in Germany

DB Cargo has announced a restructuring of its single wagonload network, introducing changes aimed at increasing reliability and operational efficiency across its European rail freight services. The single wagon network serves industries such as steel, chemicals, and automotive manufacturing by providing rail connections for single wagons and smaller wagon groups across Germany and neighbouring European countries.

The revised operational model includes streamlining connections to reduce complexity. Adjustments involve concentrating long-distance services into fewer, but higher-frequency connections, isolating resource allocations within defined operational circuits, introducing flexible routing to manage disruptions more effectively, and improving service predictability through enhanced adherence to planned transit times.

DB Cargo stated the adjustments also aim to strengthen rail freight’s competitiveness in comparison to road transport by enabling efficient utilization of rail capacities.
