The Schweizerzug service is designed to ensure maximum schedule stability and fast connections between inland locations and seaports.

Swissterminal, which is affiliated to DP World, has introduced a new direct service between Switzerland (specifically from the cities of Frenkendorf and Niederglatt) and Rotterdam with the Schweizerzug (Swiss Train) service in the new year. Swissterminal is also increasing its weekly roundtrips from both Swiss hubs to Antwerp. Schweizerzug now offers four round trips a week from Frenkendorf and two round trips from Niederglatt.

With the new rail freight connections, Swissterminal is reacting to the difficult conditions affecting the transport industry as a result of the current geopolitical situation, the shortage of skilled workers, or infrastructure problems on the German rail network.

New direct connections and an expansion of the timetable are intended to ensure maximum timetable stability and fast connections between inland locations and seaports. “Even very small delays can result in soaring production costs for our customers,” said Roman Mayer, CEO of Swissterminal.

Schweizerzug is called the link between Switzerland and the two European major ports that run on the TEN-T Rhine-Alpine corridor. With single trains able to carry 50 truckloads worth of cargo, rail reduces the number of people needed to manage transport, lowering costs and improving efficiency. Schweizerzug does not add any currency adjustment factor (CAF) to its tariffs, so customers do not have to pay any surcharges for exchange rate fluctuations. Customers can also receive four days of free storage at any Swissterminal facility before or after departure.
