To support the growing domestic construction demand, LTG Cargo announces a tender for open-top wagons to expand its freight capacity in Lithuania.

LTG Cargo, the freight division of the Lithuanian LTG Group, is to expand its transport fleet with the addition of 200 new open-top wagons. The move is part of the company's ongoing strategy to improve freight transport services within Lithuania and support the construction industry's high demand for materials such as dolomite and granite gravel.

Eglė Šimė, head of LTG Cargo, emphasised the strategic nature of this expansion: "Meeting customer needs and increasing the volume of cargo transported domestically are our strategic priorities. By shifting more freight from road to rail, we aim to reduce the burden on road infrastructure and ensure a higher volume of transport in line with customer needs".

The new wagons, which are expected to enter service in 2025, will significantly increase LTG Cargo's capacity, enabling it to transport an additional 0.7 million tonnes of freight per year. This acquisition is in line with regional growth expectations as the Rail Baltica project progresses, which is expected to significantly increase demand for construction materials.

This initiative is part of LTG Cargo's wider investment efforts, including the acquisition of new electric locomotives and the expansion of its grain wagon fleet, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable and efficient freight solutions.
