Stadler will have new CEO Markus Bernsteiner

The Board of Directors has appointed him as the new Group CEO with effect from 1 January 2023. The current CEO Peter Spuhler will become the Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors.

In Markus Bernsteiner, I have succeeded in appointing an extremely capable, long-standing companion with an experienced entrepreneurial character to the position of Group CEO. He has many years of extensive professional experience in rail vehicle manufacturing and in recent years has also successfully initiated the transformation process to further optimize our operational performance. I am convinced that Markus Bernsteiner’s leadership skills and broad expertise in the railway industry put us in the best possible position to successfully tackle the very high order backlog and further increase the company's profitability,” says Peter Spuhler, Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Markus Bernsteiner (55) is currently Deputy Group CEO of Stadler, Executive Vice President of the Switzerland Division, and manages the plants in Bussnang and St. Margrethen as CEO. He has worked for Stadler since 1999. As CEO, he was initially responsible for managing the plant in Bussnang, then the plants in Altenrhein and St. Margrethen, and from 2018 onwards, he was also in charge of the plant in Berlin on an interim basis. In 2014, he was responsible for establishing the Components Division, in which all internal supplier plants were successfully integrated under the same management. Before his career at Stadler, Markus Bernsteiner worked for Bühler AG and Benninger AG.

"Thanks to the nomination of Markus Bernsteiner as Group CEO, Peter (Spuhler) will return to the Board of Directors to concentrate fully on leading the strategy process, on “Mergers & Acquisitions” projects, strategic localization shares in joint ventures, the monitoring and approval of the offer process, strategic product development and, above all, the enhancement of customer care," declared Stadler company in its announcement.
