The extension will run for 8 years, until 2031, and builds upon Siemens Mobility's recent digital upgrade, allowing the trains to remotely monitor their condition through Railigent X technology.

Siemens Mobility has been awarded a major contract extension worth €530 million for the maintenance of the Class 185 fleet. The Class 185 fleet operates on the TransPennine Express routes between Manchester, Sheffield, Cleethorpes and Hull. The majority of maintenance work will be carried out at Ardwick Depot in Manchester, with additional work at subsidiary depots in York and Cleethorpes.

Siemens Mobility will work closely with TransPennine Trains Limited and Eversholt Rail to ensure the continued reliable operation of the Class 185 fleet throughout the extended contract period, which runs until 2031.

Siemens Mobility's advanced Railigent X technology, part of the Siemens Xcelerator digital business platform, has played a key role in the fleet's success. Trains now remotely monitor their condition, enabling proactive maintenance and ensuring optimal performance. The cloud-based Railigent X application suite provides real-time updates on the performance of each train, enabling maintenance tasks to be prioritized.

“It is a real testament for us being a trusted partner to our customers and continuing to ensure trains perform at a high standard throughout their entire lifecycle. Railigent X applications, part of the open, digital Siemens Xcelerator business platform, enable us to offer best passenger experience and highest availability,” said Michael Peter, CEO of Siemens Mobility.
