The animal, which photo shows being injured on the shell, escaped from a pet shop.

Network Rail, a train operating company in the UK, announced that trains between Norwich and Stansted Airport were halted for more than an hour due to a “giant tortoise”.

One of the passengers, Dian Akers, tweeted: "There is a giant tortoise on the line past Eccles Road going away from Norwich it’s still alive but injured."

According to BBC.com news, the pet shop Swallow Aquatics in East Harling said the tortoise, Clyde, had gone missing on Sunday and had now been taken to a vet, as it was hit by a train.

However, this story has its happy end. The company informed that the animal was saved:

"We rescued a 50kg Giant African Spurred Tortoise from the tracks yesterday near Harling Road station after being clipped by a train, damaging his shell. We are happy to report that Clyde is OK and will be returning home soon; if a little shell shocked perhaps," published Network Rail Anglia on Twitter yesterday afternoon.
