Thanks to the cooperation, RCG will transport up to 25,000 tonnes of gravel and crushed rock per year by rail for Mineral Abbau GmbH.

The ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has announced that it has extended its existing cooperation with Mineral Abbau GmbH, a subsidiary of Strabag. The Mineral Group is part of the STRABAG SE Group and is one of the leading raw material brands in Central, South-Eastern, and Eastern Europe. The company focuses on sustainable quarrying and raw material extraction as well as efficient mineral raw material management, which are prerequisites for the provision of construction services.

The transport of approximately 25,000 tonnes of gravel and crushed rock per year by rail, to which RCG has committed, will provide significant environmental relief. This will avoid around 2,000 journeys by truck.

Railway logistics with MOBILER will combine the benefits of environmentally-friendly rail travel with those of road goods transport, ensuring ease of transshipment. The MOBILER is used to run the quarries at Bleiburg and Saalfelden for Mineral Abbau GmbH. The wagons with the containers are provided in the relevant industrial sidings, then loaded with gravel. After loading, the containers are transported by rail to the relevant unloading stations (Vienna Breitenlee, Hall in Tirol/Fritzens Wattens) where MOBILER vehicles transport the containers directly to the asphalt mix plant at the site.

Six transport vehicles with a total of 24 internally branded MOBILER containers will be used to transport cargo from the quarries. No crane, private siding, or terminal is needed for container transshipment from a truck to a freight wagon, but everything is done via a special hydraulic system on the MOBILER vehicle. RCG has already transported around 1 million tonnes of various goods in this way last year.
